Aati Kalenja is a traditional folk ritual practiced by the Tulu people of Tulu Nadu, India, during the Aati month (July–August) of the Tulu calendar. This ritual involves members of the Nalke community impersonating the spirit 'Kalenja', believed to descend during Aati to protect villagers from misfortunes like diseases and natural calamities . Performers, adorned in costumes made from natural materials like tender coconut leaves and areca nut sheaths, visit households, performing dances and rituals to ward off evil and bring prosperity. In return, they receive offerings such as rice, coconuts, and vegetables
